Nelson Chaudhuri is the Associate Director, Banking and Financial Services of USIN Foundation. In this role, Nelson works with the member companies of the forum and also engages with the senior government stakeholders on issues pertaining to the digital payments and fintech, capital markets and insurance sector.
Prior to this role, Nelson worked as a Consultant at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), an autonomous research institute under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. During his tenure at NIPFP, he has worked for several high-level government committees including the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Finalisation of Amendments of the PSS Act, 2007; Steering Committee on Fintech Related Issues; Report of the Committee to propose specific actions to be taken in relation to Virtual Currencies etc. Apart from this, Nelson has also worked extensively on issues pertaining to specific areas such as overseas direct investments, foreign exchange management, stamp duty, Financial Data Management Centre, implementation of the recommendations of Financial Sector Legislative Reforms Commission, Financial Sector Assessment Program conducted by the International Monetary Fund and others.
Nelson holds an M.Phil in Planning and Development (with specialization in Industrial Economics) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Calcutta.
